About Our TriLatino Junior Youth Development Program
In collaboration with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center (MLK) and The Bronx Academy of Letters (BAL), TriLatino has designed a program to increase physical activity, promote healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness around health and nutrition education among youth in the South Bronx.
In its second year, this program consists of BAL high-school students participating in a 16-week triathlon training and development program. The Program, led by medical experts, licensed health practioners and physical fitness professionals will culminate with students crossing the finish line at the Long Island Gold Coast Sprint Triathlon in Port Washington, Long Island on June 17, 2012.
The Program has four main components:
1. Triathlon Training - Swim, Bike, Run and core workouts
2. Healthy Lifestyles Workshops covering nutrition education, health care, and personal development.
3. A volunteer day that encourages the students to give back to the community.
4. A mentorship program that pairs each of our TriLatino Juniors with TriLatino adult athletes who provide academic, career, leadership and training guidance and support.
TriLatino Junior Program Goals Our long term goal is to expand the program delivery to serve youth in the five New York City boroughs to reduce the incidence of life threatening diseases - such as obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes - affecting our Latino communities.
