Coaching Philosophy

Similar to TriLatino's charitable mission, its coaching philosophy comprises three essential elements -- Purpose, Education and Goal -- that are rooted in an edifying team culture marked by fun and a sense of "familia."

These fundamental aspects of coaching form the framework within which TriLatino's coaches formulate and execute systematic, flexible training plans for the club.

1.  Specific goals create meaningful objectives for, and encourage motivation in, each athlete.

2.  Performance goals help establish the periodized training plan created and rolled out by TriLatino's coaches over the course of each triathlon season.

3.  While interim goals and training blocks develop the athlete and team along a deliberate trajectory toward longer-term goals, each individual training session has one or more specific developmental purposes to help each athlete in ways that optimize the chance to meet or beat her or his goals.

TriLatino coaches do not merely demand robotic performance of proper athletic mechanics, but educate their athletes at every turn, teaching them the reason for each exercise or drill; the purpose of a session relative to a training block or a goal; how their bodies adapt in strength, speed, endurance and flexibility to the ever-increasing stresses they endure; and how to optimize results by sound nutritional habits and proper rest and recovery.

Goals naturally include performance objectives: a personal best; a podium finish in a race; fewer strokes to swim a given distance; improved aerobic capacity. But, goal setting in sports also involves personal, inner goals: overcoming doubt; crushing a fear; building character; mastering anxiety; re imaging "failure" as a friend and educational tool; building self esteem.

Just as TriLatino's charitable purposes involve altruistic activities to achieve certain goals, educate its constituencies and effectuate specific purposes, so too does the TriLatino coaching philosophy embrace and respect it's athletes in a supportive, developmental atmosphere. In short: TLC = TriLatino Coaching.
